Directed and produced by Michelle Coomber, this lyrical and visually stunning documentary captures the reality and myths of grasshopper season in Masaka, Uganda. The night sky is punctured by eerie green light, the whine of electricity, and the relentless buzz of insects. Giant, exposed-filament bulbs drape perilously over scaffolding and iron sheets, luring swarms of grasshoppers into carefully rigged traps. The film explores the intersection of tradition, survival, and the mesmerising spectacle of nature in motion.

Prudence was put away in a mental hospital ‘for her own good’ in 1920. It's now 1965, and she tells her story to the walls every day while she struggles to stay sane.  

This short film was inspired by the pandemic. What could be worse that the lockdown? Being sane in a mental hospital. Written, directed and produced by A.D. Cooper.

A semi- autobiographical story of a mother and daughter, suffering the challenges of divorce and lonely teenagehood respectively. They only have each other, depend on each other too, but discover that their relationship is becoming mutually harmful. This is a complicated story of interdependence, and of trying to find a way to heal a destructive relationship. It is funny, sad and desperate. They cannot escape one other, so they must find a way to survive.

Battle of Waterloo

Emma Moffat

During the Battle of Waterloo, a soldier’s wife searches for her missing husband in the nearby forest and resorts to desperate measures to survive.

​

Written and Directed by Emma Moffat, the script for A Battle in Waterloo won the Bumble Female Film Force competition which funded the film. The film was made by a 95% female crew including Director of Photography Catherine Goldschmit, Illuminatrix founder member. A Battle in Waterloo enjoyed a successful festival run, playing at HollyShorts, Underwire, Santa Barbara International Film Festival and BFI Flare among others.
